IT'S A RESTORATION

When is it worth restoring your wooden door?

If your door is solid wood or has aesthetic value, it's almost always worth restoring it rather than replacing it. With photos I can guide you and suggest the most suitable finish.

I've spent fifteen years restoring wooden doors in Mallorca. That specialisation allows me to know every type of wood, every problem and every finish in depth. First I assess, then I decide. The goal is not to make it look new.. The goal is for it to be sound, protected and with its character intact..

SEE THE DIFFERENCE

Before and after (real case)

The old is not discarded, it's respected. Throwing it out is easy. The hard part is bringing it back to life while respecting what makes it special. That's what I do: making sure it keeps telling its story for another 50 years.

COMMON DOOR PROBLEMS

Does your door have any of these problems?

I approach every case from a real diagnosis, not the quickest quote. Before proposing anything, I understand what the door has and what level of intervention makes sense.

  • Cracked varnish or wood darkened by the sun

Sun and moisture degrade exterior varnish: it lifts, cracks and leaves the wood exposed. It has a solution with the right treatment and finish.

  • Door that rubs, scrapes or doesn't close properly

It's almost always a hardware problem or wood that has moved due to moisture. In most cases it's resolved without replacing the door.

  • Woodworm: holes and sawdust

First I diagnose whether it's active. Then I apply the correct treatment, repair the affected areas and protect the wood so it doesn't return.

  • Cracks, dents and soft, weak areas

I repair missing sections, consolidate weak areas and leave the wood ready for a lasting finish. No cosmetic cover-ups, no patches that won't hold.

  • Rusty, loose or misaligned hardware

Hinges, locks, knockers. I check, restore or replace as needed so everything works smoothly and safely.

  • Moisture: swelling and warping

Wood that has been affected by moisture needs time and technique. I assess the real damage before proposing any intervention.

WHAT I DO

Every door is a different case

I don't apply the same process to all doors. The diagnosis leads the way: first I understand the real condition of the wood, the use and the environment. Then I propose.

DOOR RESTORATION SERVICES IN MALLORCA

Antique door restoration

Antique door restoration

Antique door restoration — I recover the original character without erasing it. Careful stripping, repair of mouldings and missing sections, finish that respects the piece's style.

Front door and exterior

Front door and exterior

The door that suffers most. I repair the structure and apply a finish resistant to sun, rain and daily use. The varnish won't lift again within a year.

Interior doors

Interior doors

Fine finish, pleasant feel and uniform colour. For interiors I aim for aesthetics and low maintenance. If you want to keep the original tone, we work it out with samples.

Woodworm treatment

Woodworm treatment

Real diagnosis of the extent of the damage. Specific treatment to eliminate it. Repair of affected areas. Protection so it doesn't return.

Manual stripping

Manual stripping

For doors with value: I remove old layers while respecting mouldings, edges and relief. Without aggressive machines that erase the original detail.

Hardware, hinges and locks

Hardware, hinges and locks

I check the complete set: hinges, anchors, alignment, lock. I restore or replace what is needed. The door closes smoothly and safely again.

Do any of these symptoms sound familiar?

If any of them apply, send me 3 photos (front, detail and edge) and I'll tell you the most recommended solution.

REAL WORK IN MALLORCA

Examples of restoration and handcrafted finishes

This is the part that matters. No promises here: just doors.

Restoring a door is not quick or simple

But when it's done and you see it in its place, it's hard to explain the difference. A new door is just a new door. Yours, restored, is still yours — with all its history and character, protected for decades more. I've never had a client, upon seeing it finished, ask me to replace it with a new one.

HOW I WORK

A clear process from start to finish

1

FIRST I NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IT HAS

Send me photos via WhatsApp or we can meet to see it. Before anything else, I need to know what's really going on with your door.

1
2

I EXPLAIN WHAT IT HAS AND WHAT CAN BE DONE

I tell you exactly what I've seen, what the options are and how much each would cost. No surprises later. You decide with all the information on the table.

2
3

LET'S GET TO WORK

I start when you give the go-ahead. If something unexpected comes up during the work, I let you know before continuing. No surprises.

4

I RETURN IT READY TO LAST

When I'm done I explain what I've done to it, what finish it has and how to look after it so it doesn't deteriorate again so quickly.

ABOUT ME

I am Jorge Félix Hernández García. I was born in Cuba in 1969, in Fomento, a town in the interior of Sancti Spíritus.

Since I was young, photography and visual arts have been part of my life. Over time I understood something simple: in wood, what has been lived through cannot be hidden. A mark, a grain, a worn patch… these are not flaws; they are signs of passage, of use, of home.

I have lived in Spain since 2006 and in Mallorca since 2011. The island's old architecture captivates me for its understated quality: sober façades, entrances that don't show off… and doors that, up close, tell you more history than they appear to..

My work focuses on restoring and recovering antique doors. I'm interested in what cannot be manufactured: the patina, the weight, the way it fits, the gesture of the handle when closing. When a door comes to my hands, I don't think about making it "like new", but about restoring its dignity: for it to work well again, to protect again, and to remain the same door it was… just ready for many more years.
